Shopping in Maldives

Souvenir Shops
Souvenir shops abound in Maldives, and you can easily recognise them with shocking pink and orange colors painted on them. Souvenir can range from nice crafty pieces, wood carvings, teas, keyrings, napking rings, fridge magnets and mats. Remember that almost all of these carry no price stickers and the price you get depends on the way you negotiate it. Wooded carved items and handmade photo albums are very popular as keepsakes.

Duty Free Shopping
Habitual shoppers would jump with joy when they hear of duty-free shopping in Maldives. The range is huge including items like wathces, chocolates, perfumes, electronics, clathing and accessories and all well-reputed global brands. You can shop in duty free outlets at the Departure Terminal of Male International Airport. Duty Free fashion boutiques would offer array of sleek leather items, seaters, jackets, trousers, sports wear, socks and cotton, polyester and silk shirts. You can get fanciful luxury items for your darling and she would surely plant a kiss on your face for that. When it comes to sunglasses, loads of variety is available in Maldives.

Shopping in Mahe
Of course Mahe is not a shopping paradise. Yet the Maldives capital has some interesting things to offer. Canned fish and local handicrafts are two most sought-after items in Mahe. Chandhanee Magu and majeedhee Magu are two more popular shopping places in Male.

Alert
Maldives Government has banned export of products made of turtle shell, black coral, pearl oyster shell and red coral. So, don't deal in these items.
